  1. Greg Kats
    Greg Kats
    Mr. Kats serves as Managing Director of ARENA. From 2006-2010 Mr. Kats served as Managing Director for Good Energies, one of the leading global Clean Energy investment companies.  Founded in 2001, by 2007 Good Energies invested $400 million per year in clean energy firms and helped build some of the most advanced clean tech companies in the world. With former Good Energies partner (and ARENA Principal) Michael Ware, Mr. Kats oversaw much of the company's North American portfolio including investments in wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and energy efficiency, reviewing over 500 proposals through the investment committee and directing investments into over 35 portfolio companies. Earlier, Mr. Kats served for five years as the Director of Financing for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the US Department of Energy. Since 2010, Mr. Kats has served as a Principal in Clean Feet, a $26 million project finance fund. He is the author of Greening Our Built World, and Chairs the congressionally mandated Advisory Board guiding the greening of 430,000 federal buildings. Mr. Kats was the first recipient of the US Green Building Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and served on a National Academy of Sciences Committee on national competitiveness. Mr. Kats holds a BA from University of North Carolina, an MBA from Stanford University, an MPA from Princeton University, and is a Certified Energy Manager.
  2. Michael Ware
    Michael Ware
    Mr. Ware serves as Managing Director of ARENA. Prior to joining ARENA Michael D. Ware served as co-founder of Advance Capital Markets, Inc. a private investment firm with a long and successful track record in the energy and power industries.  He has served as an advisor to private equity funds, international energy firms, independent power companies, electric utilities as well as a number of successful entrepreneurial enterprises. Mr. Ware served as an advisor to Good Energies (GEI) from 2003-2006 and as a Managing Director from 2007-2010.  With former partner at Good Energies (and ARENA Principal) Greg Kats, he managed many of GEI’s venture capital and project investments in North America. These transactions included solar PV, solar thermal, wind, green buildings, energy efficiency and renewable resource assessment technologies.  Mr. Ware has arranged financings for wind, solar, hydro, biofuels, biomass and geothermal projects and has guided several companies from start-up, through venture financing, and later growth stages including the IPO process. He is an adjunct professor at the George Washington University where he teaches courses on energy and clean technology. Mr. Ware served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 -1973. He holds a BA from the University of Detroit and an MA from Ohio State University, where he was a fellow at the Mershon Center for National Security Studies.
  3. Ruff Fant
    Ruff Fant
    Mr. Fant serves as Managing Director of ARENA. Prior to serving as a founding partner of ARENA, Ruff Fant served as a founder and Chairman of TowPath Partners and its predecessor companies.  Collectively, the TowPath companies have acquired more than $2 billion in leveraged financial assets and issued over $1 billion dollars of debt and equity securities. A practicing attorney for more than thirty years, Mr. Fant has substantial experience in federal taxation, corporate transactions, corporate finance, governance, and organizational structure. He was a partner in the Washington office of Sidley & Austin from 1984 until 1995 and served on the firm’s Executive Committee from 1988 - 1995. From 1969 until 1984, Mr. Fant was an associate and then a partner in the DC law firm Cohen & Uretz. He served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, teaching an advanced course in corporate taxation and ethics in the Graduate Program from 1978-1996. Mr. Fant graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and received his undergraduate degree, with honors in English, from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Fant served on active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 through 1969. Mr. Fant is a member of the state bar associations of the District of Columbia and State of Mississippi. Mr. Fant also serves as a member of the Management Committee of asset management firm Columbia Partners. He is a Trustee of Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, and serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Harvard Law School
  4. Ben Mummert
    Ben Mummert
    Mr. Mummert serves as CFO of ARENA. Prior to joining ARENA, Ben Mummert served as a member of the core team at TowPath Partners that has modeled, valued and acquired over $2 billion in financial assets and helped structure asset backed bonds and private placement securities backed by these assets. Mr. Mummert has a background in finance and accounting. Before joining the TowPath team, Mr. Mummert was a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen. Mr. Mummert holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from James Madison University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
  5. Jennifer von Bismarck
    Jennifer von Bismarck
    Ms. von Bismarck serves as Managing Director of ARENA. Prior to serving as a founding partner of ARENA, Ms. von Bismarck served as a founding partner of TowPath Partners where she led the Company’s efforts to develop investments in renewable energy and originate asset backed securities.  She has helped value billions of dollars of assets, including over 5,000 MW of operating clean energy assets, and worked with rating agencies, government agencies and investors to create attractive debt and equity securities across a number of asset classes.  Ms. von Bismarck has helped lead the company’s acquisition of $2 billion in financial assets, including a portfolio of commercial energy efficiency assets, and issuance of over $1 billion in debt and private placements. One such placement won the US Asset-Backed Securities Deal of the Year Award by the International Securitization Report.  Prior to commencing her career in structured finance, Ms. von Bismarck founded a Washington, DC-based company which imported products from Asia and marketed and distributed them throughout the United States.  Prior to launching her company, Ms. von Bismarck was based in Kirkland, Washington where she was the second team member hired to manage the personal net worth of Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates.  Ms. von Bismarck holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MBA from Cornell University.
